Second Form of Mental Care
Now we will zoom in on the second form of mental care, namely psychosocial support. After the acute care (1 week, or some months later), a person affected may develop additional problems, such as difficulty in sleeping, withdrawing from the club, irritability, ceasing to dive, reliving the incident or accident, anxious behaviour, depressed behaviour, problems in relationships or at work … It is important that such signals are picked up within the club and observed. Such signals indicate that the person affected needs more time to process the event.
During this phase, it is important that persons of trust, together with the diver concerned, find out what needs exist and how they can be addressed. The mental coaching team can provide support here through individual conversations, as may have been indicated in a possible referral to the mental coaching team.
